Social Psychology II

Participation Prerequisites

Before taking this course, you must also have taken Social Psychology I in the same semester.

Course Content

Social psychology is the scientific study of how individuals think, behave, and are influenced by others (real or imagined). Every aspect of our lives can be considered through the lens of social psychology: romantic relationships, decision-making, child-rearing, work, group identification, business, political negotiations, marketing/advertising and so on. The principles you will learn in this course will resonate far beyond the confines of the classroom – you could bring them up at a party and no one would think you were weird – because this is phenomena that most of us care and think about a great deal.

Intended Learning Outcomes and Competencies

After this course, you will be equipped with comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of how social contexts influence perception, judgment, behavior, and interaction. You will be able to recognize the social-psychological influences that you and others encounter as well as assess and shape social contexts and interactions. You will increase your capacity to consume and apply psychological research while improving your own critical evaluations of social psychological theories and research. You will also become more reflective of the social world around you, recognizing biases that lead to societal and interpersonal problems.
